In this project I want to elucidate from theoretical and experimental  point of view, the behavior of metallic strip grating and stratified structures in sub-wavelength regime, based on evanescent waves guided in slits and on extremely low-frequency plasmons that can appears on the flanks of metallic strip as well as the influence of the structure parameters and materials. In order to manipulate the evanescent waves, we propose the use of metamaterials lenses, calculated on the basis of Fourier optics principles and experimentally characterized. The theoretical aspects developed and experimentally validated will serve as foundation for construction of sensors for electromagnetic nondestructive evaluation of carbon fiber reinforced plastics and nanocomposites with carbon nanotubes. The perspective of construction of new types of biosensors using extremely low-frequency plasmons will be open. The sensors will be tested in laboratories of collaborators as well as at the principal European producers of sensors.

In acest proiect se elucideaza din punct de vedere teoretic si experimental, comportamentul retelelor metalice si a structurilor stratificate cu dimensiuni mai mici decat lungimea de unda, bazat pe undele evanescente ghidate in slits si pe plasmonii de foarte joasa frecventa care pot apare pe flancurile traselor metalice cat si influenta parametrilor structurii si materialelor. Pentru a manipula undele evanescente am propus utilizarea lentilelor cu metamateriale, calculate in baza principiilor opticii Fourier si caracterizate experimental. Aspectele teoretice dezvoltate si validate experimental vor servi ca baza pentru constructia unor senzori pentru evaluarea nedistructiva electromagnetica a materialelor plastice armate cu fibre de carbon si a nanocompozitelor cu nanotuburi de carbon. Se deschide perspectiva constructiei unor noi tipuri de biosenzori utilizand plasmoni de foarte joasa frecventa. Senzorii vor fi testati in laboratoarele colaboratorilor cat si la principalii producatori europeni de senzori.
